Longtime department member, psychiatrist, and community leader Miriam Gould (Shain), MD, has passed away at the age of 99.

The UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences recently announced the appointment of two accomplished faculty members to endowed chair positions by UCSF Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS, and School of Medicine Dean Talmadge E. King, Jr., MD. Both appointments have been bestowed in recognition of the recipients’ outstanding accomplishments and to support future scholarly growth and further excellence across the department’s clinical, research, educational, and public service missions.

DPBS faculty member Samantha Abram, PhD, and postdoctoral scholar Xiyu Zhu, PhD have been awarded 2024 Young Investigator Grants by the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) in recognition of their work as promising young scientists conducting innovative, cutting-edge neurobiological and psychiatric research.

With hundreds watching, a nervous Alexandra Klein, PhD, stepped into the spotlight and, pausing, took a deep, cleansing breath. “I already feel much calmer,” the UC San Francisco Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences postdoctoral scholar told an audience at UCSF’s 2024 Postdoc Slam.

Two DPBS faculty psychologists have been selected as the first recipients of a pair of new department awards honoring the achievements of psychologist clinicians and researchers.

As the UCSF Alliance Health Project (AHP) celebrates four decades of defying odds, it will host its 2024 Art for AIDS fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the UCSF Nancy Friend Pritzker Psychiatry Building. This year, Art for AIDS will honor AHP’s 40th anniversary and showcase 165 contemporary and modern art pieces donated by artists, galleries, and collectors from around the country.
