Seritan receives Exceptional Physician Award

UC San Francisco Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences faculty member Andreea L. Seritan, MD, has been recognized with a 2023-2024 UCSF Health Exceptional Physician Award for delivering world-class patient care and embodying the organization's PRIDE Values. The honor was announced during UCSF's celebration of National Doctors Day on March 28, 2024.

Seritan is a professor of clinical psychiatry and neurology and a geriatric psychiatrist specializing in treating patients with advanced movement disorders and their associated psychiatric symptoms. Her research focuses on managing behavioral aspects of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's.

She was selected in recognition of her continued commitment to improving patient outcomes and her development of several innovative clinical programs, including an embedded psychiatry practice in the UCSF Movement Disorders and Neuromodulation Center, and a consultation model that combines psychotherapy and medication management.

UCSF Health president and CEO Suresh Gunsekaran also hailed Seritan's contributions as an educator and mentor for numerous medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as her work to restructure and revitalize the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' faculty mentoring program.

"As anyone who knows Andreea is aware, her commitment to providing outstanding patient care and practicing our PRIDE values across a multitude of roles is second to none," noted department chair Matthew W. State, MD, PhD. "Her selection for this honor by a committee of UCSF Health leaders is well deserved."

Honoring excellence in health care for more than two decades

The Exceptional Physician Awards have been given annually since 2003 to a few UCSF Health physicians for exemplary demonstration of the health system’s values in their clinical practice and interaction with patients, faculty and staff. All UCSF Health attending physicians, residents, and fellows are eligible for nomination.

Seritan is the fourth Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences faculty clinician to receive the honor, joining colleagues Eva Ihle, MD, PhD (2023); Emma Samelson-Jones, MD (2018); and Maga Jackson-Triche, MD, MSHS (2020).
