The proposed UCSF Child, Teen and Family Center would be located one block south of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco in the Dogpatch neighborhood.

The UC Board of Regents will consider approving UC San Francisco’s new Child, Teen and Family Center during its meetings at UCSF Mission Bay this week.

The proposed center – made possible in part by an anonymous $50 million gift – will provide a child-, family- and adult-friendly environment that will allow UCSF to enhance and expand its offering of mental health services, as well as house the UCSF Department of Psychiatry's administrative and educational spaces.

In addition to outpatient clinical services, the approximately 170,000-square-foot facility will provide room clinical and dry research, as well as spaces for imaging, meetings, education, administration, and retail. By integrating clinical, training, and research facilities in one building, the center will allow patients and families the ability to participate in cutting-edge clinical research at a single location in close proximity to wet research labs on UCSF’s Mission Bay campus and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco. The building will also include an approximately 250-seat auditorium to host meetings, lectures, and presentations for the Department of Psychiatry and affiliated departments in the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences and from across the university.

Located at 2130 Third St., one block south of UCSF’s Mission Bay campus, the building will range between three and five stories – heights that fit into the current San Francisco zoning for the project site. It will feature two entrances, including one tailored for Child, Teen and Family Center patients and guests. Forty-one parking spaces for outpatient visitors will be located below ground, and the facility will be located close to multiple campus and public transit connections.

If approved, construction is estimated to begin in early 2018 and be completed in early 2020. Before construction begins, an existing three-story building and surface parking lot located at the site would be demolished.
