The Learning for Early Careers in Addiction and Diversity (LEAD) Program at SFGH, funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), is designed to provide early-stage researchers from underrepresented racial/ethnic minority backgrounds in the fields of biomedical and behavioral sciences with the necessary skills and guidance to help them succeed as future investigators in the substance abuse treatment research field. Over a three-year period, selected scholars work with their mentoring team to collaborate on drug abuse treatment research conducted in the NIDA Clinical Trials Network, develop a professional social network, and conduct a pilot study that will serve as a preliminary research for subsequent NIH funding. The program is led by James Sorensen, PhD, and Carmen Masson, PhD, and core UCSF faculty include department members Kevin Delucchi, PhD, and Joseph Guydish, PhD.
Currently, the LEAD Program is actively recruiting assistant professors for its second cohort, scheduled to begin in June 2015. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2015.
