New UCSF clinical fellowship to focus on global mental health

The UCSF Department of Psychiatry, in partnership with the HEAL Initiative, has begun accepting applications for a new two-year clinical fellowship in global mental health. This innovative, rigorous program has been created to train board-eligible/board-certified psychiatrists as leaders in clinical practice, capacity building, health systems strengthening and health services research in low-resource settings in the United States and abroad.

The curriculum for the fellowship includes a dedicated mental health pathway in addition to HEAL’s global health curriculum (which includes a month-long boot camp, faculty mentorship, and an online MPH from UC Berkeley). Fellows will also complete a pair of mentored six-month rotations – one providing clinical services to the residents of Tuba City in the Navajo Nation, and the another leading an integrated mental health program at a healthcare system in rural Nepal.

The fellowship's faculty includes eleven UCSF Psychiatry faculty members, including fellowship director Bibhav Acharya, MD, and co-director Craig Van Dyke, MD. Applications for the inaugural cohort will be accepted through October 30 and more details are available on the UCSF Psychiatry website.
