In a new study that followed older women for nearly 20 years, those who complained of memory lapses were more likely than others to later be diagnosed with mild thinking problems or dementia.

The 62nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) will be held Monday, October 26 – Saturday, October 31, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. Numerous current and former UCSF Psychiatry faculty members and trainees will be in attendance.

James Reich, MD, MPH, was awarded the status of Distinguished Life Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) at the association’s May 2015 annual meeting.

New York Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Anthropology Helena Hansen, MD, PhD, will deliver the 2015 Dr. Evelyn Lee Visiting Scholar Lecture in Cultural Competency and Diversity tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. as part of the Department of Psychiatry’s Grand Rounds series.

Three new faculty members will officially begin their academic appointments with the Department of Psychiatry on Thursday, October 1, as well as one current faculty member transitioning to a new position.

In the largest, most comprehensive genomic analysis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) conducted to date, an international research team led by UCSF Psychiatry scientists has identified 65 genes that play a role in the disorder, 28 of which are reported with “very high confidence,” meaning that there is 99 percent certainty that these genes contribute to the risk of developing ASD.

A new study led by Daniel Le Grange, PhD, challenges how clinicians have been historically trained to exclude the parents from treatment and counseling for adolescents with bulimia.
