The General Assessment Clinic offers expertise in the evaluation of children ages three and older suffering with emotional, behavioral, and cognitive difficulties from across the diagnostic spectrum. We provide both initial evaluations and second opinions. In addition, we work closely with specialty clinics at Langley Porter Psychiatry Hospital & Clinics (LPPH&C).
Each client typically receives an initial three-session assessment to clarify the main sources of difficulty and determine the appropriate diagnosis. We then make treatment recommendations, which may include psychiatric medications, psychotherapy, and parenting classes. Among the psychotherapies we often recommend are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. If ongoing treatment is recommended, we work to offer that treatment at LPPH&C, but will also provide outside referrals.
Evaluations and treatment are provided by clinician trainees under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of faculty attendings led by a child and adolescent psychiatrist.
