Attending Psychiatrist (Acute Inpatient Service at SFGH)

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco is recruiting a qualified psychiatrist to serve as clinician-teacher appointed in the clinical series at the Instructor to Full Professor level at San Francisco General Hospital, a major teaching hospital of UCSF. The clinician-teacher role offers the opportunity to participate in teaching, supervision and/or support of educational programs for residents, medical students, and other trainees; to provide patient care; to provide clinical leadership for multidisciplinary staff at the team level; to develop a defined area of scholarship and/or clinical research and to provide individual and/or group supervision to clinical staff. One full-time faculty position as Team Leader Attending Psychiatrist is available on the Acute Inpatient Service. The SFGH Acute Inpatient Service is led by Emily Lee, M.D., Medical Director, and staffed by a strong group of collegial inpatient faculty. Nursing, Social Work, and OT staff contribute to a high quality collaborative multidisciplinary team. The Acute Inpatient Service is committed to providing outstanding care to our multicultural San Francisco patient population, and includes clinicians with experience and expertise working with patients of diverse cultures and experiences. Specialized teams include the following: Asian, African-American, HIV, Latino, LGBT, and Women’s.

Ideal candidates would be ABPN Board-certified or Board-eligible; possess a current California medical license and DEA certification; graduated from an APA-approved psychiatry residency program; have inpatient experience, established a record of clinical, educational, and leadership skills with a strong commitment to an academic career as a clinician-teacher, and demonstrated cultural competence in working with underserved and culturally diverse populations. Bilingual and/or bicultural abilities are highly desirable.
