Clinical Psychology Training Program
The Clinical Psychology Training Program offers a two-year training opportunity consisting of clinical internship followed by a one-year postdoctoral clinical/research fellowship. Graduates are expected to pursue careers emphasizing research and training in academic/research settings, including those affiliated with health and mental health service systems.
Over the last ten years, 89 percent of our graduates have obtained research or academic positions upon leaving our program.
The Program is designed to train clinical psychologists who:
- are committed to an academic and/or research career
- have a strong record of both clinical and research experience
- are research oriented and want to work sensitively and competently with underserved populations, including the chronically mentally ill, minorities, low-income individuals and primary care medical patients
The Program provides specialized research training in:
- ADHD/disruptive behavior disorders
- neuropsychological research
- pain management
- post traumatic stress disorder
- recognition, prevention and treatment of depression
- Spanish/English internet research on depression and smoking
- substance abuse treatment research and research-practice linkages
- violence and trauma in adults and children
- mental health services research and geriatrics
Requirements
Applicants for the two-year program should have completed all other requirements for the doctoral degree preferably including the dissertation at an APA-accredited program in clinical psychology. The UCSF Clinical Psychology Training Program follows the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Match Policies. Advancement into the postdoctoral fellowship requires completion of the doctoral degree. Thus, if the dissertation is not completed by the end of the first year, the fellow will either remain in predoctoral status or be asked to leave the program. How to Apply
