Molecular Approaches to Mental Health Fellowship Program
The Center for Neurobiology and Psychiatry’s Molecular Approaches to Mental Health Fellowship Program is designed to train investigators to use cellular and molecular techniques to solve psychiatric problems. It is supported by an NIMH grant that is now in its 15th year.
The program is designed to provide intensive experience in a single basic science laboratory for a period of at least three years and participation in formal courses, seminars and journal clubs offered by the program and by other departments. Psychiatry fellows spend one half day per week in specialized clinics within the Department. Funds from the training grant are used for one year of support with the expectation that additional support will come from individual fellowship awards or the mentor's research grants. Core and participating faculty provide training in a wide variety of scientific disciplines.
Fellowships pay salary at NIH stipend levels and are available for one year, with potential for renewal.
Requirements
The Program is designed primarily for MD or MD/PhD psychiatrists who can work in the laboratory of any appropriate faculty member at UCSF. Non-psychiatrists with PhD or MD/PhD degrees are also eligible, if they are specifically interested in cellular or molecular research that is relevant to psychiatry. To increase their exposure to psychiatry research, they are only eligible for positions in the laboratory of Center faculty.
How to Apply
Up to five positions are available each year. Fellowships are limited to US citizens and permanent residents.
Please provide the following:
- CV
- two letters of recommendation
