Attending Psychiatrist (Psychiatric Emergency Service at SFGH)
The Department of Psychiatry of the School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for an Attending Psychiatrist in the Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), a major teaching hospital of UCSF. PES is committed to providing outstanding care to our multicultural San Francisco patient population, and includes clinicians with experience and expertise working with patients of diverse cultures and experiences. Led by Medical Director Melissa Nau, MD, PES is staffed by a strong group of collegial PES faculty, with Nursing and OT staff contributing to a high quality collaborative multidisciplinary team.
This is a full-time clinician-educator position and will be filled in the Health Sciences Clinic series at the Instructor to Full Professor level, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2013 or thereafter. This position offers the opportunity to participate in teaching, supervision and/or support of educational programs for residents, medical students, and other trainees; provide direct patient care; provide clinical leadership for multidisciplinary staff at the team level; develop a defined area of scholarship and/or clinical research; and provide individual and/or group supervision to clinical staff.
The ideal candidate would be ABPN Board-certified or Board-eligible; possess a current California medical license and DEA certification at time of appointment; have graduated from an APA-approved psychiatry residency program; have inpatient or psychiatric emergency room experience; have an established a record of clinical, educational, and leadership skills with a strong commitment to an academic career as a clinician-teacher; and have demonstrated cultural competence in working with underserved and culturally diverse populations. Bilingual and/or bicultural abilities are highly desirable. The incumbent must be willing to work a combination of daytime, evening, and night shifts.
