UCSF Psychiatry Residency Training Program named among top five in U.S. by physicians

The UCSF Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program (RTP) is among the top psychiatry residency programs in the nation, according to new data released last week by physician social networking site Doximity, in collaboration with U.S. News & World Report.

For Doximity’s second annual Residency Navigator, an interactive tool designed to help the next generation of doctors research and compare residency training programs nationwide, more than 16,000 board-certified physicians nominated residency programs offering the best clinical training in their medical specialty. UCSF Psychiatry’s RTP was ranked fifth among all programs in the nation, moving up one spot from last year’s results, and ranked first among residency programs in the western United States

While last year’s inaugural Residency Navigator was limited to subjective feedback for psychiatry programs, this year’s edition also included objective data on residency programs and "alumni outcomes" analysis of the curriculum vitae (CVs) and career paths of over 700,000 U.S. physicians. The UCSF Psychiatry Residency Training Program also performed highly in these new metrics, tying for second overall for the percentage of board-certified graduates and placing tenth for alumni research output.

As a whole, UCSF maintained its standing as one of the national leaders in medical education, with 15 specialty residencies earning Top 10 rankings and four being selected as the best in their respective fields. The full results of the study are available for any U.S. physician or medical student to access through Doximity’s free interactive “Residency Navigator” located at doximity.com/residency.
