Department members Adam Gazzaley, MD, PhD, and Fumiko Hoeft, MD, PhD, have been invited to attend the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Workshop at the White House Conference Center in Washington, DC on January 23. The workshop will focus on neuroscience and learning, with the specific goals of identifying research gaps, identifying innovations in research methodology and data analysis, and generating ideas for effectively disseminating information to the broader public, e.g., individuals and schools. The OSTP extended invitations to a select group of individuals with expertise in neuroscience, cognitive science, developmental psychology, and other disciplines, who also have an interest in, or research relevant to, the intersection of these fields and education practice.
The workshop is one activity of the Interagency Working Group on Neuroscience, a subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council’s Committee on Science. The workshop is being jointly planned by representatives from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
In addition, Hoeft was recently featured at the 2014 International Mind, Brain and Educational Society (IMBES) Conference in Fort Worth, TX and delivered the Norman Geschwind Memorial Lecture at the International Dyslexia Association’s Annual Reading, Literacy and Learning Conference in San Diego.
