Honors for two mentored by Meffert

A pair of individuals mentored by Susan Meffert, MD, MPH, have been selected for prestigious research honors.

Third-year UCSF medical student Chinwe Onu, was chosen as a Doris Duke Clinical Research Mentee to investigate the relationship between childhood abuse and HIV outcomes as part of Meffert's randomized controlled trial of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) for Depression and PTSD among HIV+ women affected by gender-based violence in Kisumu, Kenya.  

Linnet Ongeri, MBBS, a psychiatrist at the Kenyan Medical Research Institute also mentored by Meffert, recently received the UC GloCal Fellowship to conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments of mental health care needs among primary care patients in Kenya's Kaloleni District as part of the UCSF-Aga Khan Partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health.
