Thursday, January 23, 2014

SFVAMC staff psychologist Maggie Chartier, PsyD, MPH, has been appointed to serve on the American Psychological Association’s Ad Hoc Committee on Psychology and AIDS (COPA), a six-member board selected for expertise and demonstrated commitment to AIDS issues encompassing the perspectives of science, practice, public interest, communications, and education and training. Chartier’s term began on January 1 and will continue through December 2016.

Reporting directly to the association’s Board for the Advancement of Psychology in the Public Interest (BAPPI), COPA guides the development and implementation of the APA's organizational response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, including educating practitioners, encouraging behavioral research on HIV prevention and mental health services for persons affected by HIV/AIDS, and providing guidance for advocacy efforts at all levels.
