15th annual International Survivors of Suicide Day event provides support for Bay Area survivors of suicide loss

Monday, November 25, 2013

On November 23, more than 65 local survivors of suicide loss gathered for a day of healing and empowerment through the International Survivors of Suicide Day, sponsored by the Dept. of Psychiatry, the SFVAMC and the Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Attendees joined participants at hundreds of conference sites around the world in watching an 88-minute broadcast produced by the AFSP addressing the questions that many survivors face. Following the video presentation, UCSF Depression Center faculty and SFVAMC Suicide Prevention Program staff moderated discussion groups for local participants to share their experiences and ask questions.
