Patricia Arean, PhD is co-PI on a new National Library of Medicine grant called “Evidence-based expert system to assist in treatment of depression.”

Stuart Eisendrath, MD and Daniel Mathalon, PhD, MD, as co-PIs, received an R01 to investigate fMRI imaging of “Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in treatment-resistant depression” from the NIH/National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.  This grant will supplement Stu’s preexisting R01 on “RCT of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.”

Tom Neylan, MD, Shannon McCaslin-Rodrigo, PhD, and Gerard Choucroun, MSW worked with officers from the Grant Air Force Medical Center to develop a pilot program called Deployment Anxiety Reduction Training (DART), with the aim of taming the initial stress reaction to combat trauma in Afghanistan and preventing post-traumatic stress disorder from developing. Nancy Adler, PhD was awarded the David Rall Medal by the Institute of Medicine at its annual meeting on October 9 for distinguished leadership as a chair of a study committee or other such activities in a manner that is particularly exemplary, demonstrating a commitment substantially above and beyond the usual expectations of a committee chair.  On September 23 the IOM released the report "Women's health research: Progress, pitfalls, and promise," which Nancy chaired—it received national attention including her appearance on NBC Nightly News.

Christopher Daley, MD was interviewed for "Beyond the Headlines," a program on local ABC affiliate KGO, which aired on October 10.  The topic was about the aftermath of the San Bruno fire.

Judith Ford, PhD received the 2010 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychophysiology from the Society for Psychophysiological Research. This is a very prestigious award given to senior scientists who have made major contributions over the course of their careers to psychophysiology.
