Sarah Palyo, PhD, CPE, received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed her clinical internship at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Stanford University's Behavioral Medicine Clinic. Dr. Palyo is the manager of the Intensive Pain Rehabilitation Program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, which specializes in the treatment of complex, chronic pain conditions. She also oversees other behaviorally-based treatment efforts for chronic pain as well as educational opportunities for patients and providers on the management of chronic pain. She is a Certified Pain Educator through the American Society of Pain Educators.
Dr. Palyo specializes in the assessment and treatment of co-occuring chronic pain conditions and psychiatric disorders, with an emphasis on CBT and ACT based interventions. Treatment modalities include individual, group, and video conferencing sessions with patients in remote areas.
Provides supervsion to clinical psychology trainees at all levels. Lectures on the treatment of chronic pain with a focus on mental health co-morbidities, functional improvement, and the development of interdisciplinary treatment programs.
Dr. Palyo's research interests include co-occuring chronic pain and PTSD, resiliency, and the enhancement of psychotherapy through use of technology.
