Biography Summary:

Clinical work, clinical supervision and training, program development, and research focused on enhancing services for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions, including affective disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, and HIV.

Clinical Expertise:

Integrated substance abuse and mental health services for patients with chronic mental health or medical conditions. Motivational interventions, harm reduction, cognitive-behavioral therapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Implementation of evidence-based practices with low-income clients diverse in ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, and gender transition.

Educational Expertise:

Effects and management of co-occurring substance use, psychiatric, and medical disorders; trauma and substance abuse; cultural issues in clinical work with substance users.

Research Areas:

Addiction treatment and medical care for opiate and stimulant users from minority communities; increasing substance users' adherence to medical treatment regimens.
