Biography Summary:
Miriam Martinez, Ph.D., is UCSF Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, Division Director for Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for the Dept. of Psychiatry at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) and the Clinical Director of the UCSF Living in a Non-violent Community Program (http://coe.ucsf.edu/coe/linc/ ). LINC is a partnership between the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and SFGH. Dr. Martinez is dedicated to teaching, training and clinical services focused on working with underserved and traumatized children, youth and their families. With over seventeen years working in San Francisco, she has dedicated her career to working with vulnerable children, especially those who have witnessed severe domestic violence, have been physically and/or sexually abused and who have suffered complex trauma. Dr. Martinez is a strong advocate for children working to address barriers to care and to change policies that impede traumatized children and adolescents from accessing services. Dr. Martinez has a dedication to prevention and early intervention and is responsible for establishing the SFGH Multidisciplinary Assessment Clinic for children, birth to age 5, funded by the San Francisco FirstFive Commission. She also established the American Psychological Association accredited Multicultural Pre-doctoral Clinical Psychology Training Program within the Child and Adolescent Service, Department of Psychiatry and is active in residency training.
