Presentation: Rethinking Mental Illness: The View from 2023

Learning Objectives:

1)   Participants will be able to state the morbidity (as measured by DALYs) and mortality (as measured by suicide and reduced longevity) from mental disorders in the U.S.

2)   Participants will identify 3 disruptive innovations for understanding mental disorders, namely mental disorders as brain circuit disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and disorders resulting from the complex interaction of genes and environment.

3)   Participants will recognize the rationale and the goals of the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) project and will be introduced to the concept of “precision medicine.”
