The Child Life And Attention Skills Program
Description
The goal of this program is to develop and evaluate a psychosocial intervention for children with attention problems. The intervention, referred to as the Child Life and Attention Skills Program, emphasizes social and daily living skills needed for success at school and at home. It involves teachers and parents to provide necessary environmental supports at school and at home.
Study Design
Participants are randomly assigned to receive either one of two 12-week behavioral interventions with follow-up assessments, or follow-up assessments only. One of the behavioral interventions includes parent and child skill development groups, family meetings, and consultation with the child's teacher to address attention problems and related areas of difficulty at home and school. The second behavioral intervention includes the parenting skills intervention alone. Parent and child interviews, teacher and child ratings, and psycho-educational testing are used to assess participants. Participants are assessed at two follow-up visits.
