Neuroendocrine Regulation of Sleep in PTSD
Description
This study will focus on the role that hormones have in contributing to sleep disturbances in men and women who suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We are studying a chemical in the brain that controls the release of several hormones which may cause insomnia and other sleep disturbances.Study Design
Participants will have their sleep-wake activity monitored for a consecutive ten-day period. For all ten days, participants will be asked to fill out daily questionnaires about their sleep and mood. In addition, participants will wear a wrist "activity monitor" (like a watch) that measures activity during the day and night for the first seven days. For the last three study days, participants will stay in Moffitt-Long Hospital at UCSF, where their sleep activity will be recorded and hormone levels will be measured throughout their stay.Participant Requirements
