GENETIC DIVERSITY
Background:
With the completion of the draft sequence of the dog genome, the canine genome sequence is available to search for known markers and genes.
Project Goal:
To process over 400 microsatellite markers from all 38 autosomal and 2 sex chromosomes. Each chromosome has an average of 10 primer sets. The primers are 1Kb apart. We are also looking at large numbers of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).
Project Status:
Microsatellites: Completion of the first round of panel screening. Replacement of uninformal markers and development of new markers. All markers have been tested on several groups of families consisting of various breeds.
SNPs: We are developing SNP marker panels for high-throughput genotyping platforms.
